Corrections

Material errors that do not invalidate the main conclusions are corrected through a clearly labeled notice linked bidirectionally to the article. The version of record remains accessible and the change is dated.

Retractions

Retraction may be appropriate when findings are unreliable because of error or misconduct, the article is redundant, research is unethical, peer review was compromised, or legal or integrity concerns make continued reliance unsafe. The retraction notice states the reason and responsible party when appropriate, remains freely accessible, and the article is retained with clear labeling.

Expressions of Concern and Removal

An expression of concern may be issued while a serious investigation is incomplete. Removal is reserved for exceptional legal, privacy, or safety circumstances; bibliographic information and an explanatory notice are retained where legally possible.
