Publication Ethics and Authorship

OAIJMR follows the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the ICMJE Recommendations, and applicable research-ethics requirements. These standards apply to authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.

Authorship and Contributions

Every listed author must have made a substantial contribution, participated in drafting or critical revision, approved the final version, and accepted accountability for the work. Contributor roles must be disclosed. Gift, guest, and ghost authorship are prohibited. Authorship changes require written agreement from all affected authors and editorial approval.

Originality, Redundant Publication, and Misconduct

Submissions must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, citation manipulation, image manipulation, undeclared duplicate publication, and interference with peer review are prohibited. Allegations are assessed confidentially and fairly, with an opportunity for response, following COPE guidance. Institutions may be contacted when necessary.

Research Ethics and Patient Protection

Human and animal research must report approval or exemption from the responsible ethics body and comply with applicable standards. Clinical trials should be registered prospectively. Case reports and identifiable clinical material require written informed consent for publication from the patient or authorized representative. Direct identifiers must be removed, unnecessary identifying details avoided, and case reports should follow CARE.

Conflicts, Funding, Data, and AI

Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose relevant conflicts of interest. Funding sources and the sponsor’s role must be stated. Manuscripts must include a data availability statement. Authors must disclose substantive use of AI tools; AI cannot be an author. Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts to unauthorized AI services.

Post-Publication Action

Errors and integrity concerns may lead to correction, retraction, removal in exceptional circumstances, or expression of concern. Records remain clearly labeled and linked. Complaints and appeals are handled separately from the original decision when practicable.
